5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. Hebrews 11:5
The ultimate purpose to be in Christ is to please God. Anything short of that is not from the Lord. The reason God sent Jesus to die for the sin of the world was not so that you can become materially satisfied. But essentially, the task Jesus undertook was to bring the human race back to living for God and be pleasing to Him.
In other words, we are saved from sin just to please God. We don’t live for ourselves. Our joy is derived from doing the will of the Father.
14 For the love of Christ controls us because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; 15 and he died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. 2 Corinthians 5:14-15
Jesus died for us so that we don’t live for ourselves. If believers around the world will accept this truth, there will be no room for compromise. What sin does is lead a person to do what pleases him. In sin, everyone went his/her own way. All sorts of depravity were possible because we were in darkness. We lost the beauty God gave us.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6
By going on our own way, we stopped pleasing God! From day one, God created man to please Him. If you’re not living to please the Father, then you don’t have a full understanding as to why you got saved in the first place.
Living To Please God Will Unleash The Glory Of God
12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Philippians 2:12-13
They that live to please God see His glory in a powerful way. The desire of the Father is for His glory to cover the entire earth. We are His children, and by being proud of who we are, we live to make sure the glory of our God fills the earth. There is no value addition to the kingdom when you do what pleases you.
Some people live to please their spouses, job owners, careers, etc. You have no other choice than to live to please God your Father. He is at work in you to bring forth His will and purpose into this world. Living this way will take a chunk of frustration out of you. It is more like having nothing to lose in the sight of men but having so much to gain in the sight of God.
9 And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10
How many Christians pray in the manner Paul did for the church at Colosse? How many believers wake up and pray for the grace to please God? You need to understand the beauty of the life we have in Christ – it is not flesh and blood – but spiritual to achieve the will of God. Don’t desire earthly things to the detriment of your spiritual value.
Jesus died for us so that we can please God in every area of our lives. It doesn’t really matter where you’re in this world, if your life is not pleasing to God, then you’re in big trouble. Let the glory of God be seen in your life. Bear the fruit of the Spirit – for that is how the Father’s name will be lifted high in this world. Stay blessed.
