33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
Having a kingdom-first mindset is crucial in the time we find ourselves in. Prioritizing the things of the kingdom is what the Father desires from us in these last days. Jesus set an example for us to follow – He was kingdom-first and so should we.
48 So when they saw Him, they were amazed; and His mother said to Him, “Son, why have You done this to us? Look, Your father and I have sought You anxiously.” 49 And He said to them, “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” Luke 2:48-49
After His mother found Him, Jesus was clear as to what occupied His mind. He was busy doing the Father’s work while Mary was worried about His safety. He made it clear that He was kingdom-first – this is the example we should follow. If the progress of the kingdom doesn’t matter to you, then you have lost your sense of belonging.
The things of this world cannot come before what you do for God. I repeat, that the things of this world cannot come before what you do for God. If you find a believer who has close to zero interest in the work of God or the matters of the kingdom, then you know that there is a problem.
We are here in this world to think first about our kingdom. The ability to be kingdom-first-minded is embedded in the life we have from God. Seek first the kingdom and its righteousness – don’t seek your convenience first. Your life should be all about the Father’s kingdom – making sure to bring him good pleasure.
Your secular work cannot be more important than what you do for the Lord. Your entire purpose in the world is to do the will of the Father. All your pursuits should be kingdom-driven – your joy should come from how your place the kingdom first in all you do.
By having a kingdom-first mindset, you accept to carry out promptly everything that seeks to advance the glory of God in your life. Your various engagements should be timed around what you do for the Lord, and not vice versa. In other words, plan your daily routine around what matters in the kingdom and not the other way round.
A Kingdom First Mindset Will Bring You Fulfilment
12 I beseech[a] you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your [b]reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1-2
We are not ordained to conform to this world – our ways are different. You cannot prove the will of God in your life if you don’t have a kingdom-first mindset. Anyone who loves the God in Christ will make every attempt to walk in ways that will advance the glory of the kingdom.
It doesn’t matter where you find yourself, your identity cannot be hidden. You cannot deny that the role you play in the kingdom is essential to the realization of the will of God in the world. Don’t let the pursuit of money be more important than your work for the Lord. Don’t let the flesh or laziness interfere with your work for the Father.
The kingdom of God is beautiful – and anyone who loves peace and life will desire to walk in its light. Doing everything first for the kingdom is the beginning of having a truly fulfilled life in the Lord. Stay blessed
