And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Matthew 10:7-8

To heal the sick is one of the basic responsibilities of every believer. However, most Christians think that it is only those on the pulpit who have been mandated to do so.

Healing the sick is for everyone in the body of Christ, and you should desire to do it. In today’s devotional, we will look at two main ways to heal the sick.

And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give. Acts 1:8

First of all, to heal the sick requires you to be born again. No one can overcome the power of the devil without having the Holy Spirit. The ability to heal any kind of infirmity comes when you have the Holy Spirit. Now get this truth – the fact that you go to church or believe in Jesus doesn’t mean you’re born again. I know this may be a surprise to you, but that’s the truth.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. Romans 8:9

You can take your time to read the verse above again. The truth is, if anyone doesn’t have the Holy Spirit, you’re not part of Christ. It doesn’t matter how long you have been in church. The Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues and prophesying, is the sign of your new birth in Christ.

When the power comes, then you’re well on your way to heal any kind of sickness. Jesus couldn’t heal anyone until He received power from on high. The same power is at work in every child of God.

Use The Name Of Jesus To Heal The Sick

17 Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” Luke 10:17

The only name that carries the power over the devil is Jesus. Every child of God has been given the license to use the name against the enemy. The devil is afraid of that name and especially when it’s used by God’s children. The name of Jesus works effectively for those who are born again.

13 Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists took it upon themselves to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We exorcise you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Also there were seven sons of Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, who did so. 15 And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?”16 Then the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, overpowered them, and prevailed against them so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. Acts 19:13-16

Imagine an unbeliever or one who is not born again trying to use the name of Jesus. The seven sons of Sceva learned a lesson the hard way by using the name when they were not born again. However, the name of Jesus can heal the sick when God’s people are using it.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11

The name of Jesus is the only name that can heal any kind of disease. It is a name that has all authority vested in it. As a believer, born of the Spirit of God, using the name of Jesus will heal the sick. Don’t be afraid to use it against any infirmity.

But before I conclude, the last thing I want to talk about is faith. Having faith helps a great deal if you want to heal the sick. Kindly read my extensive teachings on the subject. I know I said two ways but faith is a bonus point I couldn’t afford to take out.

Putting all these three together will help to heal the sick to the glory of God the Father. Stay blessed
