15 “‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! 16 So, because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16
A believer who is not committed and dedicated from the heart can easily become a lukewarm Christian. God expects us to be single-minded and not double-minded. Our opening verse is very insightful. Are you a full-time worker for the kingdom or a part-time worker?
Many have been deceived into thinking that to be in full-time ministry is to stop everything else and focus on being a pulpit preacher. Well, that is farther from the truth. The day you got saved was the day you were initiated into full-time ministry for God. The word ministry simply means to serve publicly. We are called to work for the Lord and our works must be seen by all.
Lukewarm Christians are those who think they belong to the kingdom yet have a soft spot for the things of the world. They are here and there. A compromised Christian may be worse off than an unbeliever because such a person has tasted the truth, but, refuses to be fully committed. God demands our full commitment to living and manifesting His glory both in our lives and to those who are not yet saved.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Your identity in Christ must be evident to all. You cannot hide your identity throughout the whole week only to appear in church on a Sunday morning all pumped up. Wherever you find yourself, be dedicated to the purpose of the kingdom. Know that Lukewarm Christians shall be cast out. There is no middle ground – either you are committed or score nothing for your idleness.
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life[c]—is not from the Father but is from the world. 1 John 2:15-16
The Only Way To Avoid Being A Lukewarm Christians Is To Work
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12
There is only one way to avoid being a lukewarm Christian and that is to work! Don’t make the mistake of thinking that full-time work for the Lord is a preserve for the five-fold minister. We are all saved to work for God on the earth. Right in your office, at the marketplace, on the bus, or on a flight – you can fully carry out your work.
Preaching the gospel of the kingdom, soul-winning, living by the word of God, prayer, giving, and offering your talent to the service of God in the church are some of the ways to become fully dedicated to the Lord.
17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name, they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:17-18
The signs Jesus spoke of weren’t only meant for pastors. He said the signs will follow those who believe. Therefore, as long as you a believer, you must work the works of the kingdom to avoid being a lukewarm Christian. Be fully committed to the Lord from your heart. You cannot please God by loving the things of the world. Stay blessed
