13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. Matthew 5:13
Having a godly behavior in today’s world is not just priceless but an asset. Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines behavior as the manner of behaving, whether good or bad; conduct; manners; carriage of one’s self, concerning propriety, or morals; deportment. It expresses external appearance or action; sometimes in a particular character; more generally in the common duties of life.
12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the [e]right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13
Jesus showed us how to walk in this world and still retain the characteristics of our heavenly Father. He related to people in such a way that they saw God in Him.
You begin to build a Godly behavior by being lead by the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. You cannot be the salt of your world without the Holy Spirit and the Word. God’s behavior manifests through His word. Therefore, the best way to have a godly behavior is to plant the Word in your heart so that you can bear its fruit.
1 God, who [a]at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the [b]worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had [c]by Himself [d]purged [e]our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. Hebrews 1:1-3
It Takes Self Control To Build A Godly Behavior
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14
You need to yield and be humble to the Holy Spirit and His Word if you want to stand tall in this world. Godliness is what this world needs. This world needs behaviors that can bring real changes. The world has seen too much pain and ungodliness – and the only way to freshen it up is for God’s people to show up with their godly behaviors.
Jesus came to represent God in a proper and godly way. He did not just come to preach the gospel of the kingdom or to die for the sin of the world, but came to live and demonstrate how the Father wants us to behave. Your behavior must be in line with how the Father wants you to live. Until you submit yourself to the Word and the Spirit, building a Godly behavior will be difficult.
Until you are able to influence your environment and those around you in the same way salt gives taste to food, you haven’t yet built a Godly behavior.
14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
Your behavior is always seen by others. You cannot have a Godly character without others knowing it. Your behavior ought to be seen by the world, and as they take notice of the impact you are making in their lives, they will end up giving glory to God our Father. Stay blessed.
