6 Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to [a]perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God. Hebrews 6:1
Every believer must desire to grow in the Spirit. You should find it pure joy to be interested in your spiritual growth. The will of God is for you not to remain the same as you came into the kingdom.
You cannot ascertain your spiritual growth by how many times you fall or rise in the church. Neither can you measure your progress by how emotional you become when the choir sings. Though they look cool, there is a better way to know how to grow in the Spirit.
Let’s look into two verses in the Bible that will help you ascertain your level pf spiritual growth.
21 Therefore lay aside all filthiness and [d]overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. James 1:21-25
23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13:23
To grow in the spirit is equal to the fruit you bear with the Word of God. In fact, you can easily measure your growth by how promptly you do the Word. A sinner has no interest in bearing fruit with the word of God. Their interest is to do the will of the devil. But in Christ, doing the Word is the gold standard
Doing The Will Of God Is The Only Way To Grow In The Spirit
9 For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9-10
It is essential to the Father that we grow in the Spirit, and especially, to use His Word to achieve that. Each time you chose to do the word of God over the work of the flesh, at that particular moment, you have attained a level of spiritual growth. Some believers fall and rise under “the anointing” yet, are living with a partner they are not married to, or on a bed of fornication, or engaging in something that doesn’t please the Father.
God is pleased when you become a Word addict. Every child born into the world has to eat to grow. By playing, the food is put into use which helps in growing. The same applies to our growth in the Spirit. The Word we hear must be put to use.
2 Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, 2 as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow [a]thereby, 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious. 1 Peter 1-3
The Holy Spirit, through Apostle Peter, couldn’t have put it any better. If you want to grow in the Spirit, desire the Word. The word of God is the only way to spiritual growth. The Holy spirit feeds you with His Word until you mature in the kingdom. By continually doing the Word, your growth shall be obvious for all to see and give God the glory. Stay blessed
