23 Jesus said to him, “If[a] you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23
You must know how to live the life of a believer. Before the term Christian became popular, the disciples were known as believers. So who, therefore, is a believer?
One cannot be a believer without first believing. The word believe is translated from the Greek word pisteuo. It means to persuade, to be convinced that something is true, to induce one to do something by persuading, to have confidence, and ultimately, to obey.
In other words, one cannot claim to be a believer if that individual continually doubts God’s word. We are born again by believing. Life in Christ is such a way that you need to believe to receive. A proper believer must at all material time be seen engaging in any endeavor from the point of being persuaded by the Word. By being persuadable, you live as a believer.
You cannot be a doubting believer – neither can you walk in your own set of knowledge – if the Word is not persuading you to live, then you’re missing a point. The only thing God needs to convince us with is His Word. The Word is the expression of His glory. Failure to believe God’s Word is an admission of doubting Him.
All things are possible to a believer. Jesus didn’t say some things but all things are possible when you believe. Abraham showed us an example that when you believe, indeed, all things are possible. He proved that age cannot determine childbirth. He gave birth at a time when both he and Sarah had gone past childbearing age.
One of the problems God had with the children of Israel was the fact that they didn’t believe Him. They doubted Moses right from day one and took that attitude through the desert until they arrived at the promised land. As a believer, you don’t have any option other than to be always persuaded by the Word of God.
A Believer Is A Doer Of The Word Of God
22 But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not just hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his [v]natural face in a mirror; 24 for once he has looked at himself and gone away, [w]he has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was. James 1:22-24
The only way to prove yourself as a believer is to do the Word. You are not a Christian because you attend church meetings. There’s nothing wrong at all to attend church meetings, but there is no point going to church if you’re not ready to do what you’re being taught. Hearing the Word is not information gathering – it is a life transformational moment.
The Word you hear is who you’re. By being persuaded by it, you end doing it. And by doing it, you will manifest the glory of God. So if all things are possible to those who believe, then in essence, all things are possible to those who do the Word. The irony you find with some believers is that they have a selective attitude. They pick and choose what Word to believe.
It is your duty to believe. You have the Holy Spirit and His ministers to feed you with the Word. It is injurious to your life and a dishonor to God when you don’t believe. Stay blessed always.
