22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [g]gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Galatians 5:22-24
There is a difference between the gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the Spirit. These two are not the same because there is a systematic way behind how one can produce the fruit of the Spirit.
To produce a fruit requires a seed. The type of seed determines the type of fruit one can produce. In the same way, it is not possible to produce the fruit of the Spirit without having its seed.
18 “Therefore hear the parable of the sower: 19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. 20 But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
21 yet he has no root in himself but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. 22 Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. 23 But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” Matthew 13:18-23
The seed that is needed to produce the fruit of the Spirit is the word of God. The gift of the spirit is giving by God as He wills. But for the fruit of the Spirit, one ought to apply the Word. You come into contact with the seed that carries the ability to bear fruit when you hear the Word.
The Word You Believe Is The Ability To Produce The Fruit of The Spirit
8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:8-10
The only way you can produce the fruit of the Spirit after the Word has been sown into your heart is to believe. Believe, translated the Greek word pisteuo. This word literally means to be persuaded. To accept as true, genuine, or real. Therefore when one believes in the Word (seed), he is persuaded to take actions that will result in producing the fruit of the Spirit.
For instance, how can you walk in peace which is one of the fruits of the Spirit? We know that by the stripes of Jesus, we have been healed. Sickness has no authority over us. So instead of walking in fear of any disease, you will be persuaded to be at peace because of the Word you heard.
23 who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; 24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose [g]stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:23-24
Hearing the Word is the basis to believe, which in turn produces the fruit of the Spirit. Everyone born of the Spirit ought to have a relationship with the Word. The conduit of God’s glory is the Word. If you can believe in the Word, the life of the Father in you will produce fruits unto the glory of the Father.
16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Romans 8:16
The Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. And as His children, living by the Word should be our delight. Because the only way to please the Father is to live by his Word. The Spirit takes hold of the Word in our hearts to produce His fruit in us.
It is not possible to produce peace if you have not heard any Word on peace. It is not possible to produce love if you have heard nothing about love. We live to bear the fruit of the seed that has been planted in our hearts. Therefore, anyone who desires to bear the fruit of the Spirit ought to believe the Word that is preached. Stay blessed
