16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16
A child of God must learn how to walk in the Spirit. The life we have in Christ is fundamentally spiritual- one aimed at influencing our walk in this world. If you are not walking in the Spirit, then you are not truly living as a child of God – it’s as simple as that.
The devil often comes to tempt us away from walking in the Spirit, but it is our mandate to rule over him. The fact that we live in the body doesn’t mean we yield to its dictates – we must fight with the knowledge we have acquired in the spirit if we are to rule over the enemy.
17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Galatians 5:17-18
The flesh must be tamed. It always tries to fight the spirit but when you desire to walk in the Spirit, the passion of the flesh can be controlled.
Now, the way you walk in the Spirit is to be led by the Holy Spirit. He is the master of the realm of the spirits.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. Romans 8:14.
God leads every true child (son) of Him. Jesus proved to us that it is possible to walk in the Spirit in this natural world. His endeavors and actions were all orchestrated by the Holy Spirit.
19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner. 20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel. John 5:19-20
This is how a believer ought to live his/her life. We don’t have to do things because we feel like it. Is the Holy Spirit leading you to do what you are doing? If yes, then you are walking in the Spirit.
No Condemnation To Those Who Walk In The Spirit
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1
I have heard many quote this verse as “there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus” – they end there without adding the rest. The truth is, “there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, WHO DO NOT WALK ACCORDING TO THE FLESH, BUT ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT”. So you can be in Christ and still attract condemnation if you’re not walking in the Spirit.
So how does the Holy Spirit lead us to walk in the Spirit? Very simple, because He leads us with the Word of God.
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will tell you things to come. John 16:13
You cannot walk in the Spirit without being led by the Holy Spirit. And you cannot be led by the Holy Spirit without the seed of the word of God. The Holy Spirit teaches us to be sensitive to Him and be productive in the kingdom through the Word. The Spirit of God is always where the Word is. Therefore, a born-again person is one walking and living by the Spirit and the Word.
It is possible to walk in the Spirit in this natural world as long as you stick to the Word and fellowship with the Spirit as He leads you in glory. Stay blessed.
