The Only Thing That Matters

40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

41 And [l]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:40-42

Martha’s attitude is a summary of how a lot of people are living their lives today. They worry about everything else except the only thing that matters – that is, to know and live the will of God.

Mary wanted to hear the word of God – Martha wanted a helping hand in the kitchen. The Lord’s verdict was simple – hearing the word of God is more important than food. This is awesome! This is very telling because too many people are worried about things that do not have any eternal value.

People go after things that will not follow them to heaven. They spend more time trying to get them than to do the will of God. The only thing that matters is to do the will of God, especially, hearing the Word and preaching the gospel. How many souls have you won into the kingdom so far this year? When was the last you prayed for the salvation of souls? When was the last time you preached the gospel to someone?

God wants you prosperous on earth, but prosperity shouldn’t distract you from living for the Lord.

20 But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ 21 “So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” Luke 12:20-21

To Think Heavenwards Is The Only Thing That Matters On Earth

3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. Colossians 3:1-2

Everything about us must be about heaven. Though we live in this world yet, our lives should be an embodiment of heaven. There is a level in Christ that one gets to in which you don’t have to ask for anything. Instead, whatever you need is added to your life.

When heaven becomes your focus, and all that matters to you is to please the Father, then, He will make sure you don’t have to sweat for what you need. As a believer, you’re not on earth to achieve your personal ambition. Your purpose here is to do the will of God! It doesn’t matter what you have in life, if it is not in line with God’s will, then you have zero chance to boast before the Lord.

For if Abraham was justified [b]by works, he has something to boast about; but not [c]before God. Romans 4:2

People boast about their PhDs, jobs, marriage, business, etc – forgetting that not living for the Lord renders all those things useless. What do you materially have that could ever surpass what God created? I mean, what can you boast of that God hasn’t yet seen? Lol!

Precious one, the only thing that should matter to you is to live the will of God. Mary discovered that and she was commended by the Lord. God has no problem with you prospering – the truth is, He wants to add whatever you need to your life so that you can focus on Him instead of going after what you need.

I pray that you will discover the need to place the will of God on top of every agenda you have. There is nothing worth fighting for except the will of the Father. You will be glad that you made heaven your preoccupation. Stay blessed
