The Power Of Patience

1And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become [e]sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:11-12

Patience is a subject many people including some Christians, don’t want to hear. But it is such an important message in the body of Christ because God our Father is patient.

The word translates makrothumia in Greek. Makrothumia literally means long-temper as opposed to short-temper. When one is under the control of the senses, being quick-tempered and full of sentiments is the order of the day. One of the greatest signs of a true child of God is the ability to hold back the mind before any action is taken.

Patience is the grace to be wronged and not retaliate. I know this is not what you want to read on a Monday morning but as God’s child, this is the truth that should excite you. You cannot walk in faith and be impatient. We are charged to emulate those who through faith and patience achieved great things for the Lord.

38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away. Matthew 5:38-42

I have come across Christians who are carrying years of bitterness and unforgiveness in their hearts. They’re clearly ruled by their senses and not the Holy Spirit. We are not in the dispensation where an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth reigns. Revenge or even seeking vengeance is not part of God’s plans for His children,

Patience Is The Power To Heal Any Conflict

A wrathful man stirs up strife, but he who is slow to anger allays contention. Proverbs 15:18

Being quick-tempered is an unwise thing to do. In fact, in the bible, those who quickly get angry are described as fools. Every true child of God is not sentimental but always calm. The biggest channel the devil uses to start any conflict is to incite anger. Anger in turn leads to contentions, and oftentimes, to deadly outcomes..

Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, for anger rests in the bosom of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9

As you grow in the Lord, you will quickly realize that the life of the Spirit has no room for impatience. Because one of the fruits of the Spirit is patience.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 [g]gentleness, self-control. Against such, there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

I have seen anger destroy people. The devil first blinds the mind and then triggers anger at the slightest provocation. If you’re reading this and have any kind of offense in your heart, know that you have given the devil a weapon to use against you. An outburst of wrath is a work of the flesh. The devil stirs up your flesh just to get his diabolic agenda carried out.

Therefore, the power of patience is the ability to prevent the devil from touching the glory of God in your life through anger. God is not slow – His long-temper is so that the devil will continually be put in his place. Salvation is the work of God in Christ, and patience is the key ingredient to achieving that.

Today, make it a point to clear your heart from any kind of anger or offense. Having long patience is beautiful. It is marvelous in the sight of God. There is no need to be reactionary or sentimental. Stay blessed
