What Does It Mean To Be Faithful?

And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2

Faithfulness is an important fruit of the Spirit. The Greek word pistos translates faithfulness in the bible, and it literally means to persuade, or convince, or induce one by words to believe. The word carries the idea of someone who is worthy of faith or trustworthy or one who keeps a promise.

We have the baptism of the Holy Spirit so that we can keep God’s word in our hearts. And not just to keep it, but to go on and live by the Word. Faithfulness is God’s nature. And as His child, you ought to be faithful as well.

God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9

God is always true to His Word. A Christian who doesn’t keep the word of God in his heart is not living according to the nature of Christ. God watches over His Word to perform it because He is faithful.

12 Then the Lord said to me, “You have seen well, for I am [c]watching over My word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12

God does not lie! What He says is exactly what He does. Whenever we keep the Word, we subscribe to the fact that God is capable of bringing to pass what He has said. Living by the Word is a mark of a faithful child of God. The children of Israel broke the law many times because they lacked the nature of faithfulness. But having been born again in Christ, we do the Father’s Word without any struggle.

God is faithful – His life is revealed through His Word. Each time a believer keeps the Word, the glory of God also manifests. The Holy Spirit brings us the life that is needed to keep doing the Word. Be convinced by what God says He will do. Whatever the Lord tells you to do, whether by His Spirit or through His ministers, just do it!

A Steward Must Be Found Faithful

Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.  1 Corinthians 4:2

Your life on earth is stewardship. God has entrusted you with His Word to keep and live by it. The purpose is to reveal His glory in the world. It is unfaithfulness to seek to do anything contrary to the Word of God. The Word carries the Life of God – failure to live by it will deprive you of enjoying the Lord’s goodness.

Keep the Word in your heart. Even the devil knows about the importance of the Word. His goal is to make you unfaithful but resist him – you’re more than a conqueror.

Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. James 4:7

Be full of faith! Let the Word of God richly dwell in your heart. Keep it and never let it go. The reason some Christians live a compromised life is that they have rejected the Word from their hearts. They live by human opinions and reasoning instead of the word of God.

A believer simply means a faithful one. Christians are those who are meant to keep God’s Word in their heart.

11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11

To live by grace is to live by the Word in your heart. The Word brings the joy to overcome sin. The number one antidote to sin is faithfulness. Be faithful in your walk with God and man. Don’t take any decision without first acknowledging the position of God’s Word. Faithfulness doesn’t happen in a vacuum – it is holding on to God’s Word for your life.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16

Don’t allow the enemy to steal the Word from your heart. Keep it! Don’t do contrary to what the Father has given us in Christ. Be faithful, as your Father is faithful! Stay blessed
