16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-17
Why do Christians claim to have something good to tell the world? Why are we buoyant and pumped up when it comes to telling the world about Jesus? I have come across some believers who have no idea why what we preach is good news.
The word gospel translates the Greek word euaggelion. It literally means good news. So the gospel is good news. So why is the message of salvation good news?
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17
You cannot take your eyes off John 3:16 if you want to understand what the gospel is all about. That verse contains everything you need to know. The message of Christ is good news because believing in Him brings you the life of God. To receive the life of God is the ultimate purpose why Jesus came into the world.
What this life does is to set you free from the dominion of darkness. When sin entered the world through the first man, darkness from the enemy covered the world. What people went through required a savior.
Savior from Greek soter simply means an agent of salvation. Salvation, also from Sozo in Greek means to rescue. Adam’s action at the beginning sent the entire human race into the realm that needed us to be saved. And since no human being was capable of rescuing us, God caused His word to take up the form of a human being in order to save the world.
The Gospel Is The Medium To Receive The Life Of God
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:1-2
God designed His rescue mission in such a way that we don’t just end up being rescued but go on to dominate what dominated us. So the design was that after salvation, one receives the life of God that sets him free from the life of sin and death.
With God’s life, the power of Satan was eternally destroyed over us. Having the same life as God should position you to reign on earth. It is the Father’s life that carries the power over all that the devil stands for. It doesn’t really matter what the devil stands for, the conclusion is, the life of God sets you free from his power.
17 For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Romans 5:17
This is a summary of what the gospel is all about. It is indeed good news knowing that you have a life that sets you free from the works of the devil. Therefore, our gospel is special and one aimed at reconciling the world to God our Father.
18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19
Let it be your joy to dish out the gospel to your world. You have nothing to be shy of – the world indeed needs what you have. Stay blessed
