Why The Blood Of Jesus?

11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ Leviticus 17:11

Some believers sprinkle the blood of Jesus, others use it to bind the devil, and some love to plead the blood. But have you ever figured out why the blood of Jesus is so important? Blood stands for the life of any flesh. We were all described as flesh and blood until Jesus came to introduce us to the life of the Spirit.

There are erroneous teachings out there claiming that the first man Adam had a spirit, merely because it is written that he was made in the image of God. The fact that the first man was made in the image and likeness of God doesn’t mean he was spiritual. There is a lot to Genesis 1:26 that many have not yet come into terms with.

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being. Genesis 2:7

44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.” The last Adam became a life-giving spirit. 46 However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual. 1 Corinthians 15:44-46

The first man was made from the ground – thereby is earthly, and was animated by breath. Every flesh has blood. Spirits don’t have blood. The life of every flesh is in its blood. When Adam and Eve sinned, they lost their lives to the enemy. If there was going to be salvation, whoever was going to do it must have the same life as the one who sinned.

who, being in the form of God, did not consider it [b]robbery to be equal with God, but [c]made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:6-7

Jesus is God but took the form of flesh and blood. He was as human as anyone who ever walked the face of the earth. It wasn’t possible to save those with the nature of flesh and blood if the rescuer doesn’t have the same nature. But what makes the blood of Jesus so potent was that it was different.

But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood. Genesis 9:4

The Blood Of Jesus Speaks Better Things

35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:35

Though human, the blood of Jesus was not from any human source. God provided the blood and the virgin, the flesh. Even science has it that the blood of a baby comes from the father and the body from the mother. If Joseph had given birth to Jesus, then his blood would have still been contaminated with sin.

So in effect, the life (blood) of Jesus was sinless. He had to be made sin to facilitate His death on the cross. His death gave him access into the realm of darkness, where He officially defeated the devil and saved us from his authority.

15 In this way God took away Satan’s power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ’s triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away. Colossians 2:15

Jesus experienced sin and tasted death on the cross on our behalf. He poured out His life (blood) for you and me so that we will be set free. So when we are talking about the blood of Jesus, what it actually means is the life of the one who secured our freedom.

24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:24

The blood (life) of Jesus speaks better things than that of Able because the latter’s life was full of vengeance. Jesus came with a life of freedom to liberate the whole world from the bondage of sin. Jesus came not to pay back the evil that men have done, but to save us from being destroyed by the devil.

Therefore, the blood of Jesus is potent and powerful because of who He is. We talk about the blood of Jesus because He is the one who offered His life to save the rest of us.

And without blood, there is no atonement for sin. If sin was committed by flesh and blood, it will take the same flesh and blood to save from sin. This is why we talk about the blood of Jesus. Stay blessed
